Ozone Therapy
Healing Therapy for the Past 100 Years
Believe it or not, ozone gas has served as a medical disinfectant and a form of rejuvenation/healing therapy for the past 100 years…at least. Research indicates ozone may be useful in combating a variety of health complications, including diabetes, breathing disorders, and immune disease. This may be due to the fact that––as one 2018 Medical Gas Research article found––ozone can help stimulate the creation of protein and red blood cells in bodily fluids, ultimately increasing oxygen supply.
“Ozone therapy” in a hospital setting begins with medical-grade oxygen sources, which are then converted into ozone as a possible method of fortifying the immune system, potentially fighting off parasites and fungi as well as viruses and bacteria. Therapies can be administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or topically (with protective gear).
In dentistry, ozone therapy can be used to help treat periodontal or gum disease and can also be employed during biologic root canals, at extraction sites, or in areas where tooth decay is present. In such cases, the ozone seemingly helps to disinfect teeth while enhancing the body’s immune response.
